- Adina ,
A piazza-like layout brings the warmth of an open-air kitchen into the earth-toned dining room at this innovative South American eatery. Here, where the terra cotta walls are bedecked with vivid indigenous art, diners can find traditional Peruvian dishes reimagined with globally tinged flavors. Several zesty ceviches dot the menu, but entrees such as pan-seared duck breast and crispy duck confit served over cilantro-infused rice steal the show.

- New Old Lompoc , - 1 Viewing
The low-key atmosphere at this neighborhood brewpub is a refreshing change from the bevy of trendy shops and restaurants that line the rest of 23rd Avenue. Named after a bar in an old Mae West movie, the Lompoc has been crafting its own brews since the mid-nineties, and features a variety of ales and lagers with memorable names. The John Outhouse Special Bitter, for example, is an English-style beer, and tastes much better than it sounds.

Whether it's Yellowcard and Snow Patrol or Method Man and Insane Clown Posse, this venue is hoppin' almost every night of the week. Decent stage views can be had from virtually everywhere. - Shanghai Tunnel ,
Patrons wander underground into a dark, slightly spooky cavern, or they can stay upstairs and converse with friends on red vinyl couches. Legend has it this place was a tunnel where 19th-century Portlanders were shanghaied, so dim Oriental lights, dragon murals and dive-bar elements lend appropriate atmosphere. It's a favorite among service-industry types, musicians, and the occasional rock star who pops in after a big show. Potent drinks keep the regulars and visitors bubbly.
